October Weeks 11 and 12

Week 11

Day 72: Wednesday Oct. 17th

Today I spent the day doing errands. I dropped Angie to get her flat tire fixed, made arrangements to get my cam belt and other things fixed on my car and then spent 2 hrs at the internet just responding to e-mails. At 5:00 Sarah and I picked up Beauty and Nosipho and we went to Somerset mall to do our study, play card games and to build our relationship with one another. The funny thing about this day is that everybody wore green. I think everybody in the mission house and the girls that hang around us is starting to think alike. Another amazing thing happened today, Angie received $500 R in the mail today to pay for the flat tire. God is so good because she had no money to pay for it.

Day 73: Thursday Oct. 18th

Today Sarah and I went to drop off our cars to get fixed and then went straight to a café to do some work on our computers.

Day 74: Friday Oct. 19th

Picked up my car today it cost me 1538.76 R to replace all the belts and minor things. I then cleaned the car and I found my water bottle where the spare tire was placed. Yeah! (It’s been missing for two weeks). Even though I spent a lot of timing cleaning my car it still looks dirty. In the afternoon Sarah and I needed another venue to do our computer work so we went to Waterfront and Signal Hill.

Day 75: Saturday Oct. 20th

We went to help Happy with Sunday School today and she always comes in her pj’s. At 2:00 we went to the youth worship and had to do most of the work because Casta just came back from Lesotho. When we arrived at home Paul and the others were home from Madagascar. Mrs. Ohm prepared a Sushi meal for us. It was the first time I ate raw fish and it was ok. In the evening Sarah and I went to the world cup rugby finals between South Africa and England. South Africa won 15-6. It was a great evening.

Day 76: Sunday Oct. 21st

Today I went to Casta’s church and everybody was dressed in their traditional outfit because they were celebrating the pastor’s 40th birthday afterwards. The party started at 1:00 with praise and worship. I stayed till 3:30 pm and I found out that they didn’t finish praising and worshipping till 6:00 pm. It was a lot of fun seeing how Xhosa people celebrate! We can sure learn from them!

Day 77: Monday Oct. 22nd

I picked up Lucky early to teach me how to play the Jimbay, but I don’t think he understands concept of teaching me how to play it. I think I made a big mistake. I then had to take Pastor Park, Julie and Jeff around the preschools. I drove terribly and I even got lost. (Oh how I hate driving people) This December Pastor Ohm wants us to teach conversational English to the local pastor in Madagascar, therefore, Sarah and I started to research on finding the cheapest ticket to Madagascar.

Day 78: Tuesday Oct. 23rd

We were planning to hike Lions head this morning, but it was raining. I then went back to the mechanics because I told him that the high beams weren’t working and other minor things. I had a blond moment when I went to the mechanics because I told him that my high beams weren’t working. I then found out I was using the wrong button to turn on the high beams. (I really don’t know anything about cars) In the afternoon we started building another preschool.

Week 12

Day 79: Wednesday Oct. 24th

Today Sarah and I were in charge of measuring the wood for the outside frame. We then left at 2:00 to pick up one of the youth from her school. We had to go to the bathroom so badly that we stopped by the college and when I was turning right to the school somebody rear ended me. The person who hit me was a cripple and had six children in the back seat. He had no insurance or a license. I had to make a tough decision and let him go and give him grace. After that we had to pick Sandiswa’s brother from school and played games with her family. While driving home from Sandiswa’s home I kept on thinking about the car accident and I couldn’t keep the tears away. I just had to have a good cry because I was tired of the problems with my car. Pastor Ohm tired to consol me and I ended up talking about my vision about the preschool ministry and all the problems with it and how we need to change the way we do things. I talked to him about quantity over quality. I told him that everything looks good from the outside, but the inside is falling apart. I find that everything is half done. We need to start concentrating on building a foundation that’s built on quality. I was so passionate about what I was talking about that I had to release tons of energy out of me. Sarah and Paul helped me release some energy out by playing some rugby drills and then we watched the cartoon Madagascar at night.

Day 80: Thursday Oct. 25th

After devotions we had a youth meeting and I gave Casta some positive criticism. I hope that he can take it and use it to make him a better leader. I then told him that I was going to pick him up at 5:00 in the morning to climb Lions Head to teach him about how to persevere, conquer giants and another way to praise God. Paul then took us out for lunch because the high school visits were over now. We then went to construction afterwards.

Day 81: Friday Oct. 26th

I woke up at 4:00 so that I can pick up Casta and Yemkela at 5:00 am. It was a full moon that day and we just listened to worship songs while driving up to the mountain. We met Paul and Sarah there. There was a warm breeze when we started and it was great to see the sunrise while climbing the mountain. We were the first people up and it was amazing, but were soon joined by other people running up the mountain. (It only took them 20 mins. to run up) I then spent 3 hours showing Casta how to prepare a teaching lesson on worship. I showed him all the elements you need in order to capture the kid’s attention and make it fun.

Day 82: Saturday Oct. 27th

Today before our youth worship, Faith showed me some cool drum moves. The problem is that I always forget what I just learned when I go home. (will I ever learn?) The lesson on worship went well overall even though my speakers broke down in the middle of the session. In the evening we had all the missionaries over for dinner.

Day 83: Sunday Oct. 28th

Today I went to the Baptist church at 8:00 am and then went to Paul’s church in Khayelitsha. In the afternoon I continued to talk to pastor Ohm about the preschools and then the singles went out to watch a movie called stardust.

Day 84: Monday Oct. 29th

Today at devotions people weren’t respecting each other. I finally had to stand up and speak the truth. I pray that people will work each other’s problems out soon. In the afternoon I dug sand for most of the day at the construction sight. That day I also lost my flash drive and my camera broke!

Day 85: Tuesday Oct. 30th

I fasted last night and today because all the political problems some people were having at African Leadership. I pray that people will face their giants and learn how to solve their problems in a God honouring way. I also found out today that my renters moved out and my sister had to get rid of the furniture I had left in the house before the next renters came. Thanks for everyone who volunteered to take care of my furniture while I am away. I then went to buy a new camera and a new flash drive. Just my luck the new flash drive I bought broke the first time I used it. I hope I can get my money back. Then this evening I found out people are starting to ask for forgiveness with one another. It’s a start and I hope it will continue.
